Happy Birthday Confide in Me

Today, 29.08.94 the epic song Confide in Me by Kylie Minogue was released and to mark that occasion I have decided to re-post a blog I made over a year ago about it. This song is not only one of my all time favorite songs, but it also had a profound affect on me in regards to making me a lifelong Kylie fan. So enjoy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONFIDE IN ME

Me listening to Music

Since music has always been such an important part of my life, I have decided to post every once in a while a blog about songs that I for one reason or another still love and adore to this day. These will be songs that I have loved and adored since I was a kid and have certain memories attached to them. Some of them I even found strange yet entertaining, and some even changed my life. I am a firm believer that music and even certain songs can change your life and have a profound impact on you at a certain time in you life. With that in mind I think it is very appropriate to begin with a song that did indeed change my life since it is the song that made me a life long Kylie Minogue fan, Confide in Me.

Prior to hearing Confide in Me back in 1994 (when I was 16 years old) I had heard all of Kylie's Greatest Hits since a penpal from Germany had sent me a cassette tape (yes cassette, people) of the album Greatest Hits and I absolutely loved her music but did not become the mega fan I am today, right away.

I had seen her some years before in Neighbours and found her very interesting as the feisty mechanic Charlene and I really like the storyline between her and Scott (like everyone at the time).

Since Kylie had not been popular here in Iceland for her music I wasn't that familiar with her as a singer until my penpal introduced me to her music. After having been listening to her music for some time now I got very excited when I found out that she was about to release a new album, on a new record label back in 1994. Since I had gotten to know Ms. Minogue's music back in 1992 I was getting anxious to hear some new material from her. Prior to the release I tried to get my hands on everything relating to some news of her return so I bought and read various pop magazines like Smash Hits, TV Hits, Big and many others. By now I had taken a great interest in her and her music so the release of her new album was a big deal.

Finally the time came that both Confide in Me (29.08.94) and Kylie Minogue (19.09.94)were released and I remember calling a record store here in Reykjavík every day until they finally had it in stock (bear in mind that I lived in a small town 45 km outside of Reykjavík so I would have to take a bus to Reykjavík to go buy the album). Even though I had not heard anything of the album I was very excited about hearing it. Then I took the bus to Reykjavík (the lengths you go to for one of your idols at that age) and went to the record store to buy the album. I remember when I came they were unpacking the cd, along with other titles, out of the boxes they came in. I took one copy and went to the register, thinking how I couldn't wait to get home and listen to it.

Then I went back home (the sole purpose of this trip was to buy this cd) and I put the cd in the cd player and the beautiful haunting sounds of Confide in Me began to play. The strings and the piano, combined with Kylie's angelic voice at the beginning gave me chills and goosebumps. I just sat there speechlees and in awe of this beautiful song playing on the stereo. Bear in mind these were only the first few seconds, and then the violins kicked in at full blast along with the beat and I just sat there, lost for words. At last when her vocals came in I was hooked and I just kept thinking how this was the greatest song I had ever heard in my life (I was only 16). I just sat there mesmerized by this haunting song, sung by this siren with an angelic voice (I know dramatic) and I knew my life would never be the same. By hearing this song for the first time changed my life forever, since from that moment I became a MEGA HUGE Kylie fan and I still am today.

I kept listening to it over and over again, not getting enough of the dramatic gesture of the song. The song is not only brilliantly produced and written by the fab Brothers in Rhythm, but also Kylie's vocal performance is one of her best she has delivered in her career. This was excactly the song she needed to come back to the pop scene after being away for 2 years, at the time. It was bold, daring and different to anything she had done prior. To this day this is my all time favorite Kylie song and I don't think that will ever change. I know this all sounds very dramatic but like I said earlier, some songs can have a profound effect on you and even change your life, and Confide in Me and Kylie certainly did that.
With that in mind I leave you with the video for the song (which is fab) and some performances by Kylie of the song throughout the years. As a bonus I also put a performance of the song made by Hurts since I feel they capture the essence of the song brilliantly.
Enjoy, kisses, teddixxx

Kylie - Flower to be released

Finally, after being only available as a live version from the X Tour, Flower is going to be released as a single from the forthcoming Abbey Road Sessions album.

I have been waiting for this song to be released in some form since I first heard it. It is such a highlight for me as a fan and a fantastic song. I am very excited about this being released and I hope it will get the recognition it truly deserves. This is excactly what I want to hear from Kylie at this moment in her career. Don't get me wrong, I love pretty much everything the woman has done in her career, but sometimes it is good to shake things up and do something like this.

Thanks to Marky over at http://shineonandon.blogspot.com/#!/ for all the info.

According to the new release schedule published on Music Week, this beloved song written by Kylie will be the K25 surprise for September and also will be included on the Abbey Road Sessions album! Flower is to be released as a single on September 24th/25th! (It’s not clear which yet) and it is also not yet known if it is to be a Physical or Digital release.

The song, written by Kylie and Steve Anderson, was first performed during the X2008 Tour and remains a highlight for many fans. The single release may explain reports of Kylie visiting an estate in Cornwall and the need for confidentiality agreements of those surrounding the visit. Kylie even Tweeted a photo of flowers during the visit, no doubt hinting at the song!
Confirmation from Kylie...!
